What it means to hire for heart: the Astara Wellness approach to building our team

Finding the right support worker is one of the most personal and important decisions an NDIS participant or family can make. The person coming into your home, accompanying you into the community or helping you with intimate daily tasks needs to be more than just qualified - they need to be someone you trust, someone who genuinely cares and someone who shows up consistently.

At Astara Wellness, we think about this a lot. Here is how we approach building our team.

Values before qualifications

When we recruit, qualifications are a baseline - not a differentiator. What we look for first is the qualities that make someone truly good at this work: empathy, reliability, patience, cultural awareness and a genuine desire to support people to live the life they choose. You can teach someone how to complete a task. You cannot teach them to care.

Rigorous screening - without exception

Every Astara team member must hold a current NDIS Worker Screening Check, Working with Vulnerable People registration, National Police Check and First Aid certification before working with a single participant. These are non-negotiable. We also conduct thorough reference checks and verify all qualifications independently.

Ongoing investment in our people

We believe a well-supported team delivers better care. Every Astara team member receives regular supervision, access to ongoing professional development and a clear escalation pathway for complex situations. We also invest in cultural responsiveness training, trauma-informed care and mental health awareness - because the people we support deserve a team that is equipped for the full range of human experience.

Consistency matters

Wherever possible, we aim to match participants with a consistent support worker rather than rotating staff. We know how much relationship and trust matter in this work - and we build our rostering to reflect that.

Want to join our team? We're always looking for values-driven people. Send your expression of interest to hello@astarawellness.com.au.
